Adam Salviani is an entrepreneur in the publishing industry who was forced to join the industry out of necessity. This does not mean Salviani does not enjoy his job, or that he isn’t good at it. However, he only founded his publishing firm because he felt that writers were being mistreated by their publishing industry. Salviani knew this to be true because he started off as a writer himself.
Salviani has a good deal of experience with the publishing industry because as a writer he became quite disenchanted with his publisher after a series of bad experiences. Salviani wrote a novel which sold quite well in the market. However, the publishing company took 92% of all of the royalties, with Salviani only able to claim around 8%. Despite the book doing well in several countries, Salviani was not able to collect a fair share of profits from the book. This despite the fact that he had spent a great deal of time working to promote the book all over the world, in seven countries and two continents. One would expect that his publishing firm would have set up these events and paid for them. Instead, Adam Salviani was forced to pay for the expenses out of pocket and arrange for all of his own events. Salviani co-founded a publishing firm called Raider Publishing, in 2005. The entire purpose of this new venture was to offer the same services as other publishing companies (or more) while keeping less of the royalties.
